The Power of Words

so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.                                                                                                            Isaiah 55:11

Words are powerful. How many times have you been hurt by the words others have said to you? Or watched the hurt on a loved one’s face from the words that escaped your mouth? On the flip side, how many times have the things people have told you-compliments or good news-brought you joy?

Often we hear that what we think and speak have the power to bring change to our emotional and spiritual health which in turn has an effect on our reality, our actions, our choices, and our general life. I watched a video the other day of man who passionately “evicted” (his word choice) the devil and anything in his life that did not allow him to align himself with God. My first thought was how powerful his word choice was. I could feel his conviction based on his word choice alone and it motivated me to want to evict the same things from my own life.

Knowing that words have this power, why is turning to the Word of God our last choice in any situation-painful or joyful? His Word has more power than any we can come up with or symphony of words we can put together. This is why it is so important that we find ways to read, ponder, pray on, and interact with God’s Word. If you’re new to exploring Scripture and the Word of God, I encourage you to join our blog and simply read our weekly verse pairing it with prayer and reflection.

They say 21 days make a habit. Once His Word is a habitual part of your daily life, it will become that much easier to add God to other areas of your life. Even if you’re not new to Scripture, perhaps, this is a reminder of how much we need His Word and to believe in its power. God has given all we need to exist and follow Him in this world. We simply need to reach for it instead of all the other distractions society offers us in its place.

Heavenly Father, Today I praise you for Your Word and the power it has to restore, guide, and heal. I ask that you place the urgency in my heart to reach for You and Your Word daily in all situations having faith that you will provide me wisdom to understand the Scriptures You bring through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name, Amen
