Verse of the Week

If you falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength!
Proverbs 24:10 (NIV)

Interacting with God’s word daily-everyday-is vital. It’s also a great way to bring ourselves closer to Him. When we read His Word, we learn more about God’s character and find guidance for our lives. Yet, it can be easy to read a verse, check off the box of having read it, and move on without truly taking it in.

Focusing on a verse for the week gives us the opportunity to truly interact with God’s Word and can help us to gain more from it than a 30 second respite from this fast-paced world we live in.

I encourage you to open and end each reading with prayer. If you are unsure of where to start, checkout the Worship Prayer on our Prayer page

Below you will find ways to interact with this verse in a different way each day. Using a journal or having a place to write your thoughts can be especially helpful.

Read the Verse

Reflect on what you gain/understand about the verse.

Reflections Questions: What did you learn about God’s character?

Was it a message that spoke directly to your life?

Were there key words that stuck out to you?

Read the Verse

Compare your initial thoughts today to yesterday’s or to the events that have happened in your life since yesterday’s reading.

Do you see or feel something new?

Read around the verse-Gain context by reading a few verses before or after the verse of the week. Utilize the same questions from Monday’s directions as you do this initial reading of the surrounding verses.

Remember, it doesn’t have to be a whole chapter. Let God lead your reading.

Read the same verses you chose yesterday.

Have you gained anything new from this reading?

What key words stuck out to you?

How does this increase your understanding of the original verse?

Reflect on your week and the ways in which this verse has impacted your daily activities. How have you seen God and His Word work in Your life?

Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.
